Expect no fewer than three plaques to become fixtures on the Buddy Holly Walk of Fame this fall, with the next induction ceremony being planned for Sept. 16 - and what a varied trio of talents being honored.

Jennifer Smith, the late David Box and David Gaschen - all with ties to Lubbock and/or Texas Tech - will become the 63rd, 64th and 65th talents to be honored with induction. The time and other details have not been pinned down.

Characters in "A Chorus Line" might well have inspired Smith, whose career has found her dancing and acting in more than a half dozen Broadway hits, from "La Cage Aux Folles" in 1983 to "The Producers," beginning in 2001. She now costars as Kitty in "The Drowsy Chaperone," described by one critic as a musical for people who love musicals.

Box died in 1964 at age 21, the victim of an airplane crash. That is somewhat ironic because Box may be best known for being signed by the Crickets to perform the vocals on "Peggy Sue Got Married" after Holly's tragic death. Box also recorded "Little Lonely Summer Girl" shortly before his death.

Lubbock native Gaschen became the Phantom in the musical "Phantom of the Opera" in both Hamburg, Germany, and Basel, Switzerland in 1995. He made his Broadway debut in the same leading role in 1999, and has embarked in recent years on a recording career.
